Mangakino
After a chilly start at Atiamuri the day only warmed up about 10am when I could shed the gloves and feel comfortable. A further hour of mirror glass paddling saw me about half way down the Whakamaru dam
A light SE breeze helped out with the run down to the powerhouse. I was a bit concerned about how to get on the river below the dam after talking to Mike the eeler but it turned out pretty easy (as long as the local signage was only glanced at).
A gorgeous afternoon with little wind on lake Maraetai has put me at Mangakino for the night - flat and well above lake level!
